CONCORD — U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes announced new legislation today aimed at giving small businesses tax credits if they offer health insurance to their employees.
The bill, authored by Hodes, would allow businesses with less than 50 employees to receive a up to $2,250 tax credit for a family health care plan. It is Hodes’ intention the credit will allow these businesses to buy better plans for ther employees. An employer sponsored insurance plan in New Hampshire for a family of four costs around $9,300.
“We have been debating health care reform for decades and nothing has happened except prices have gone up and more families go without coverage. It’s time for a serious dialogue on health care reform and I look forward to working in Congress to provide affordable, portable health insurance for every American,” said Hodes in a statement.
Hodes, a candidate for the U.S. Senate, announced this legislation flanked by a few small business owners at the Legislative Office Building in Concord.
